AUTOMOTIVE TABLE "PRODUCTION AND INDUSTRIAL ASPECTS" - MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The operational meeting of the automotive table convened by the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Gilberto Pichetto, took place yesterday at the Mise, with the aim of sharing with all the relevant stakeholders the fundamental steps for the relaunch of one of the sectors strategic aspects of the country's economy. The meeting, chaired by Pichetto, was attended by representatives of the main trade associations, companies and trade unions.
Deputy Minister Pichetto, during the interview, argued that Italy is facing an epochal technological transition. While the transition from traditional to electric cars will have undoubted beneficial effects from an environmental point of view, on the other hand it raises great questions about employment in the sector: the goal is that the price to be paid does not fall on the shoulders of families and of the industrial categories most in difficulty. The Government considers it essential that compliance with the principle of technological neutrality, that is the green transition of mobility, must also be sustainable from an industrial, infrastructural and social point of view.
Marco Bonometti, as President of the OMR Group, spoke at the table: "The EU proposals will have a strong impact on the automotive sector, risking to wipe out the car industry in Europe. It is important to define sustainable rules to allow companies to plan their future and that of their employees. This is why we are asking for a European industrial policy project for the car, to defend the competitiveness of our continent towards America and China. We also insist on the need to share a single proposal with the other European states, the European Confindustria and with the various trade associations representing the automotive supply chain. The industrialists are in favor of decarbonisation, but without favoring one technology over all the others that have the same objectives ”.
